Text and mobile update questions

Ok, so here’s one thing I’ve noticed about text alerts since I have moved the blog. Right now, you just get an alert with the title of the blog post and a link that is shortened to something along the lines of a site that is wp.me. I’m working on getting the twitterfeed working well again, and when that happens you will get NORMAL alerts that just tell you to check the blog!

Transition and Upgrades

Updated at 7:04 p.m. on 1/15/2010

Alright everyone. Bear with me as I’ve done a total upgrade and reworking of the blog. I moved the blog to a more easy-to-navigate service called WordPress, away from Blogger. I have used Blogger for many years but saw more benefits in us using WordPress as I come up with more ideas for more intereactive and e-communication for Senior Youth.

WordPress powers many popular sites, such as popular sports blogs and the CNN “Political Ticker.”

If you have a problem with the blog in the first few weeks, be patient, and I hope to have more information on getting everything up to full speed soon.

To contact me, submit a comment. Whoever comments on this blog will not see comments posted immediately. The comments face full moderation from me! :-)

One thing I really like about the new WordPress site is this: a separate page for different things, complete with subpages. If you look at the navigation by the logo at the top of the page, you’ll see a new link that goes just to the calendar. Try it out. Please give me ideas for changes and upgrades too!

Best,

–Jake

Shirts

Being in college I have a flexible schedule — having class 8-11 MWF and Monday nights — and I have a lot of free time to think, too.

I got to thinking yesterday afternoon, you know, we had some discussion about getting shirts for Senior Youth back in the fall… and I figured we ought to start discussing it again.

What would you think if we got some new shirts?

I want input and ideas, preferrably left here as a comment or emailed to me.

Put your minds in action…
Jake

THIS SUNDAY

Do not forget… we do have a meeting this Sunday! Volleyball anyone?
6:30 pm – be there…or be a triangle, because no one wants to be a square!

Elf Project

Be sure to read this post and the one right below it! You must. (Or Jake might go crazy!)

Dear Elves:
The first night was a success and we can’t forget to keep it going!

Get text updates to your phone!!

Hey guys. You can definitely get text updates about Senior Youth to your phone the CORRECT and BEST way now. No joke. It’s working.  I set up a twitter feed of the blog…and well…trust me…this works:

Simple directions:

  1. Pick up your phone.
  2. Start a new text.
  3. Send the message to 40404.
  4. Only put these two words in your message: follow scdsryouth
  5. Send the text.
  6. That’s it.
  7. You’ll get updates.

Please do this. I won’t badger you daily with texts. Just once a week…or once a month or so.

–Jake :)

Dear Elves…

If you have NOT signed up for a “job” on a day, contact Marcia ASAP if she hasn’t contacted you yet. No more can be said here.

And just so you know… forget about the Ning network. Turns out if we wanted to use the way we need to, we would have to subscribe to it and pay a fee…so we’ll just stick to the blog.

Christmas is getting close! December 25 is approaching fast.

:-) — Jake
